Let us fast forward to Moses and the sacrifices and the laws and Passover. God did not make a mistake by having Moses offer up the sacrifices for sin, the rams, bullocks, goats and cattle. When God brought the children out of the land of Egypt by having them sprinkle the blood of the Lamb on their doorposts, God was teaching the children how to be obedient to his word. And in that obedience, the death angel (devil) would not kill the children of Israel and they would be brought out of the land of Egypt. God told them to teach their children year after year and generation after generation. This is Passover. And God told them they could atone for their sins by the sacrifices of the animals. This was not a mistake by God. God was dealing with a stiff necked people who needed to be taught discipline on how to obey the word of God. So God set forth the process for the atonement of sins. The example used was what had happened with his only begotten Son, Abel. Abel was the first to offer the sacrifice acceptable to God and Moses and the children of Israel had to learn to have the same obedience and love for God the same way Abel did. Abel’s sacrifice of his cattle was pleasing to God because Abel not knowing he was God’s son, showed a love to God, that made God happy and Abel offered to God the best of his cattle and the fat as well. Not only did Abel show his love for God, but also the worship that God seeks. He gave God all that was in himself. And when God looked at Abel and the sacrifices that Abel was making, God saw himself in his son. So when God gave Moses the laws and commandments, ordinances and statutes, it was for the purpose of teaching obedience to the word of God. God wanted to show the children of Israel how to worship GOD ONLY, and to live their lives according to the way his son, Abel had lived before Cain chopped off his head. God wanted the children of Israel to not live according to the strangers in the land who worshiped other things, gods, silver and gold and the heathen or gentiles who worshiped those things.
God wanted children to himself and Jacob, Isaac, and Abraham’s children God wanted to teach how to offer the sacrifice for atonement of sin because God had a plan for the people. Before God could implement the plan, they had to learn the first lesson, obedience. So the animal sacrifices were a teaching tool from the example set by Abel, God’s only begotten son.
